BHW employs energetic, caring, and motivated therapists, supervisors, and coordinators who have an earnest desire to improve the behavioral health of our clients. BHW’s employees are highly qualified individuals with backgrounds in child development, education, and/or psychology related fields. They undergo intensive BHW training to deliver research-based ABA and instructional methodologies and receive ongoing training through BHW’s ABA academy.
Consultation Director, Mark Nguyen, Ed.D., PPS
Dr. Nguyen completed his Doctorate in
Education from the University of Southern California (USC) and maintains
credentials in school psychology and administration. He has a strong and
established presence among the Vietnamese community for his work in general and
special education. Dr. Nguyen has served a number of positions including
professor at National
University in the School
Psychology program, School Administrator and School Psychologist. He is
an active member of the Boys and Girls Club organization. Dr. Nguyen is
also involved with Little Saigon's radio talk show where he facilitates
discussions on topics such as Autism and ADHD.
Diagnostics Coordinator, Michael Keller, Ed.D., LEP, NCSP
Dr. Keller maintains licensure as a
Licensed Educational Psychologist in addition to credentialing as a school
psychologist and school counselor. He earned his Doctorate in Education
from the University of Southern California (USC) and has developed his
expertise as a professional educator over the past decade in the public and
private kindergarten through 12th grade setting, and as a professor at
California State University Long Beach (CSULB) in the School Psychology
program.
Case Supervisors
We value accountability of our programs
and dedicate much attention to accurate data collection and supervision of our
therapists. Our case supervisors have bachelor and/or master degrees in
special education, and psychology related fields. Some have their BCBA or
are BCBA eligible with years of training in behavioral analysis and have worked
among individuals with Autism and other disabilities. Case supervisors
work closely with our program coordinators to develop treatment plans and
modify intervention programs as needed. Case supervisors serve various
roles, which include managing client cases, delivering parent consultation,
facilitating clinic meetings, and attending IEP meetings.
Behavioral Therapists
Behavioral therapists typically have
educational coursework completed in the areas of child development, special
education, and/or psychology. They undergo intensive and ongoing BHW
trainings that adhere to research-based ABA
methodologies. Depending on the child’s needs and the program
goals, one-on-one sessions may be delivered at the child’s home, school,
and/or community settings.
What is a Licensed Educational
Psychologist (LEP)? According
to the California
Board of Behavioral Sciences,
"The practice of educational psychology is the performance of any of the following professional functions pertaining to academic learning processes or the education system or both:"
(a) Educational evaluation.
(b) Diagnosis of psychological disorders related to academic learning
processes.
(c) Administration of diagnostic tests related to academic learning processes
including tests of academic ability, learning patterns, achievement,
motivation, and personality factors.
(d) Interpretation of diagnostic tests related to academic learning processes
including tests of academic ability, learning patterns, achievement,
motivation, and personality factors.
(e) Providing psychological counseling for individuals, groups, and families.
(f) Consultation with other educators and parents on issues of social
development and behavioral and academic difficulties.
(g) Conducting Psychoeducational assessments for the purposes of identifying
special needs.
(h) Developing treatment programs and strategies to address problems of
adjustment.
(i) Coordinating intervention strategies for management of individual
crises.

What is a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA)? According to the Behavior Analyst Certification Board,
"The Board Certified Behavior Analyst is an independent practitioner who also may work as an employee or independent contractor for an organization. The BCBA conducts descriptive and systematic (e.g., analogue) behavioral assessments, including functional analyses, and provides behavior analytic interpretations of the results. The BCBA designs and supervises behavior analytic interventions. The BCBA is able to effectively develop and implement appropriate assessment and intervention methods for use in unfamiliar situations and for a range of cases. The BCBA seeks the consultation of more experienced practitioners when necessary. The BCBA teaches others to carry out ethical and effective behavior analytic interventions based on published research and designs and delivers instruction in behavior analysis. It is strongly recommended that the BCBA supervise the work of Board Certified Associate Behavior Analysts and others who implement behavior analytic interventions."
